The latest news email from VIR ...
DANVILLE, VA - Oct. 21, 2009 - VIR is pleased to announce its upcoming annual Holiday Laps, to be held this year on November 13, 2009. This annual charity fund-raising effort benefits the Salvation Army that serves the City Danville and Halifax and Pittsylvania Counties. For a donation of $25 per session, or the equivalent in food or toys, donors can drive VIR's legendary 3.27 mile Full Course in their own cars.
"Holiday Laps one of many ways we try to give back to the community," says track managing partner Connie Nyholm. "Raising the funds for the Salvation Army is a wonderful cause, and when you add in the smiles on peoples' faces as they come off the track it really makes the day a great fun day for all."
Donors are allowed on the track, behind a pace car, in any street-worthy vehicle. Past years have seen motorcycle groups join in the fun, as well as the usual contingent of sports car clubs, some of whom drive for hundreds of miles to get to the track and back home.
Track drives begin at 9:00 Friday morning, with the final session starting around 3:30 that afternoon. Rides in the Ariel Atom two-seater supercar will be available for an additional $10 donation and rides in one of Sasco Sports' fleet of vintage race cars will be raffled off. Last year's winners got to ride in Dave Handy's McLaren Can-Am racer. More door prizes will be raffled off during the event, including season passes, dinner at the Oak Tree tavern and nights in the VIR Lodge.
