Bill knows... I need tires.  during the fun drives, the stockers screamed like this:

SO I need tires for my new RX8 Rims (18x8).  SO one of you guys tearing it up through the mountains needs to chime in on what you love or hate.  My list of budget summer tires is:

Sumitumo HTR Z III
Dunlop Direzza DZ101
Kumho Ecsta SPT
General Exclaim UHP

I'm looking in the 235 OR 245 width, 40/18 sizes... I will go as wide as I can and still fit them under there...  I'm off to the 6 forum to see what will fit!

I have always enjoyed Kumho and General Tires.

Actually, Jon has the UHPs on his 8 - you should've bugged him about them yesterday, lol... General makes a good tire that has good tread wear and decent rubber, but tends to lack on turn-in and overall grip. I have Generals on my Jeep though and had them on my old Tribute with no issues w/ cupping, uneven wear, etc...

Kumhos generally make one of the best "budget" race tire - and I cant say enough about my new found love the Ecsta XS. The other tire I thoroughly enjoy are the BF Goodrich G-Forces... good bang for the buck.

I havent used teh Direzza but a lot of 8 guys have and have mixed feelings.

You should also consider the Falken Azenis (what i was going to use instead of the XS) or the Bridgestone RE-01... both fantastic...

I destroyed the Falkens Ziex 512s that came on my new Ruff 279s rim purchase a year ago, and the car was down for 4 months of that time. They were great for about 3 months. Then they were junk. Here are my recent acquisitions for our cars:

4 Qty. 245/40ZR-18 SUMITOMO HTR
$459.68

02/14/2009

4 Qty. 235/40ZR-18 SUMITOMO HTR
$415.34

06/12/2008

I could not beat the price, and they last at least a year to a year and a half; and that is daily driving, with an idiot at the wheel. Road noise is comparable to a passenger tire tread, just remember wider = more. When these are done, I'll replace them with the same.

UPDATE:  Found I can fit 245/40/18 since I have my rear fenders rolled (got it done free at a meet as a just in case measure :-)

SO the new list is comprised of UHP and MP tires in the comparable price range:
Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport 97W 29lbs
General Exclaim UHP 93W 25lbs
Kumho Ecsta SPT 97Y 27lbs
Sumitumo HTR Z III 97Y 25lbs

List is from priciest to cheapest but RE760 has $100 cash card when you buy four that puts it between the SPT and HTR for price.

Notes:
DZ101 got kicked out due to crap test results @ TireRack (last both times).
HTR doesn't like stopping or cornering in the wet.
SPT beat Sdrives for cheaper so kicked them off the list.  Doesn't mind the wet.  SPT also beat UHP when compared head-to-head.
RE760 on heels of Pilot PE2 but likes stopping wet or dry better than cornering (Pilot likes cornering rather than stopping).

If the RE760s weren't so damned heavy I'd jump on them hard... but 29lbs!!!  And I'd have to wait for that Amex giftcard thing....

Dont trust the reviews you read at TireRack.. I've learned that most people leaving those reviews know more about solving perpetual motion then tires....

They ranked my now glorified Ecsta XS as a bad tire, and yet - my right foot and grassroots magazine's shootout placed the XS at the top of list for lap times OVER the RE-01 which costs over a hundred more a tire....

my three for the Porsche set;
Like Brandon I'm looking at the Kumho Ecsta SPT and the Yoko S.drive, they are practically the same price in the sizes I need them in .
Also found on Discounttiredirect.com the Nitto 450's were very close in price, anyone have any input on those?

Tire sizes I'm looking at:
front - 205/55 R-16
rear  -  225/50 R-16

the prices range from $71-$91

Well I've changed my mind, it's Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110 because in 5 German magazine it got top marks and it's cheap and it has a $50 mail in when I buy 4 :-)

So I have to order them today.... and I'll be going with 235 width for now since I don't want to get too close to rubbing and couldn't find any people with 245s on their 6 to compare to.
