I got my second reckless ticket a couple weeks ago, and i'll probably be losing my license for 3 months or so.  Whether I lose it or not, I will most likely be selling my beloved Miata and buying a cheap V6 SUV like an early generation explorer (better known in the Mazda world as the Mazda Navajo).  This is not a set thing yet, but I think it is best for me to get out of the sports car for a while until i've matured a little more and take some of the lead out of my foot.  With the money i get from the Miata, i will be buying an SUV as mentioned above and at some point I will be picking up another Miata that needs an engine, so that I can slowly rebuild my spare engine and swap it in.  The other miata will be a track car, that i will pay the uninsured motorist fee on, as well as get inspected simply so that i can drive it to and from the track, and of course a CVMC meet here and there ;).

i'll keep everyone posted on the situation.

Nathan! You can't unload the Miata! We don't have enough of them in the club anyway.

But, if I weren't going to be selfish I'd say, "Do what's best".

....and best of luck.

Making a "grown up" decision like this shows maturity. Tough decision, but if you think it is for the best, follow your heart. But hey, maybe you can find a Navajo, then you would still be driving a Mazda ..... and coming to Mazda meets. wink

Well, I'm going to pick up my new (to me) '91 explorer on tuesday afternoon.  I can always swap the badges from a Navajo wink.  It needs some work, but the engine and trans were replaced at the dealership only a few years ago.  I can do the work myself anyway.  I won't be selling the Miata quite yet, i'm going to wait until i've got the explorer in safer condition (brakes, door hinge pins, etc.) just to make sure everything goes as planned and i don't end up without a driveable car... plus, it's gonna be hard lettin go of her crying.  Hopefully i won't be out of the Mazda game too long, and everyone should fully expect my return!

Oh we expect it alright. In fact if we don't hear from you, just remember, we know where you live.

keep in mind that the Explorer is going to be just as fast as your Miata and you won't feel the speed till much later

it's probably faster actually, but its not the capable speed i'm worried about.  it's the temptation to USE to speed...
