I have an idea for our future drives.  A nice legal limit FM transmitter hooked up to an ipod so we can all listen to the same stuff on a drive.  I have a friend REALLY big into radio stuff who can probably find one cheap- but I need song suggestions (you tube link optional but helps if there are multiple versions).

Like so:
Queen - Don't stop me now

Fear Factory - Cars

"Radar Love" by Golden Earing
"I can't drive 55" by Sammy Haagar
anything by M.O.V.E.

"Eruption" by VH
"Dragula" by Rob Zombie

on my ipod! The man actually changed how I view life in a short half page interview in Mens Health mag. He is so far off what people think. Love the movies too.

Stravinsky--Le Sacre Du Printemps
Shostakovich 5

^^Two best driving tunes in the history of recorded and non-recorded music.

I have to agree with the Queen, Priest,  and Fu Manchu suggestions also. Lemme add Iron Maiden and Slayer to the "classic metal" mix.

I'm a classical musician by trade, but my tastes go every which way in the wind, so I'm pretty open minded. Unfortunately, the radio/stereo/speakers in the Miata absolutely blow, so I usually don't listen to anything except the engine...which is just fine.

My French sucks, so I had to look up the piece before I realized it was The Rite of Spring.  duh.
I had never listened to Shostakovich and his 5th surprised the heck out off me.  Wow.

Shosty 5 will change your life.

The 4th movement is really stellar driving music.

Shostakovich never wrote anything "okay". Just about everything he did is awesome.

Ministry  -  "The Land of Rape and Honey" and on the same titled album "Flashback".
Just make sure there is no one in your way.

Some of my favorite driving songs that aren't "car songs" per se:

Ministry - Just One Fix
Marilyn Manson - Disposable Teens and Rock is Dead
Megadeth - Peace Sells
Motorhead - Ace of Spades
Iron Maiden - Wrathchild and 2 Minutes to Midnight
Rage Against the Machine - Bulls on Parade
Supernaut - Shot to Hell
my all time fave in the car:
Megadeth's cover of Paranoid

For interstate cruising I usually play Motown
