Cheap? Nah, not that one. Unfortunately 12k is asking price for the '04 now days, and that one has 70k+ miles. Doesn't look like he's getting many replies either.

Pass.

I saw an '04 for $9k w/ 45K miles on it last week... sucks for us 8 owners!

I think though, at some point, they'll go back up or at least stay at the same price for a while.. the economy is reaking havoc on many used cars in general...

If some unfortunate thing would happen and someone total my Speed, I would serious look for a 04 05 RX8. But hoping nothing like that happens, maybe I can have both one day...LOL

A general rule of thumb would be to buy an '06 and newer. The oil metering was corrected by then and very little issues with the engine failure after that.

if you have the money
I've been watching th 04's price drop like rocks in hopes of picing one up real cheap and making a track car out of it.
Were the early RX-8 omp's over or under oiling?

Under. I'm sure Mazda was trying to make the car more marketable. It's tough to tell a new car buyer that they would have to add oil every 1500-2000 miles.

well then some premixing oughta fix that issue
was it the omp itself or was there an ecu reflash that fixed the issue?

My understanding is that it was a reflash. But the Mazda mechanic was a little vague when he told me they "did a few other things" as well.

Premixing; yes! But yet another thing you don't want to have to tell the prospective new customer.

I premix with 4oz of lucas UCL. I thought the MSP16 service bulletin took care of oil metering. After reading, apparently it was increased at start-up. I'm unclear if it cuts back after initial warm up.

I love the picture of the 'engine' they took! It only shows the cover, how lame.

they always do that, of the thousands I've looked at I can think of maybe 2 where they had the cover off- probably because it was missing

The recent flashes (anything after March of '08) would cure any early OMP issues. I've always premixed every other fill up (the 8 fueling system has me a bit on edge about running premix ALL the time due to where the sump and pick up is).... either way, it's not a big deal. Anybody with a rotary who is used to them is cool with premixing and keeping an eye on the oil level.

Also, the new models ('09 and up) have an additional oil injector I believe now as well as the advancements made to the OMP.

Mazda has never had the OMP right ever since they got away from the mechanical version in '88. Oh well...

Well, I'm looking around for an 04' or 05', or just anything that's a good deal in my price range(Those years should say my average range). So, a reflash would help with the oil burning? Just saying help, not fix, since you did mention them saying "Other things".

And how good of a daily car do you think one would make? Between a daily car and one I could autocross and such and have fun with, haha.

That does appear to be a spectacular deal! A little bit odd that he's selling that cheap with all those mods?
